2011 National Football League mock draft - Part 5
This is the fifth part of a series of articles discussing the top ten draft picks in April’s 2011 NFL Draft. We finish up here with Blaine Gabbert from the University of Missouri, having discussed him, Nick Fairley from Auburn University and Von
Miller from Texas A&M University in the fourth part.
Gabbert was sacked nine times once again and earned a quarter-back rating of 127.03. He also ran 112 times for 232 yards and five touch-downs while also accumulating two solo tackles.
Defensive end Marcell Dareus from the University of Alabama will most likely be going to the Tennessee Titans as their eighth overall pick, as they try to rebuild their defence. The 306 pound behemoth played in eight games during his freshman season, but
started none. He had only four tackles and three quarter-back hurries. In 2009, he started in four games of the 14 that he played in and had 33 tackles, nine of which were for a total loss of 49 yards. Dareus also had 6.5 sacks for a loss of 44 yards and one
interception which he returned for 28 yards. He also blocked three passes and hurried the quarter-back seven times.
In his senior season, he was suspended for the first two games of the season in connections with accepting a bribe from a sports agent. All 11 games that he played in, he started. Dareus racked up 34 tackles, 11 of which were for a total loss of 41 yards.
He also had 4.5 sacks for a loss of 26 yards along with four blocked passes and ten quarter-back hurries. Dareus was named the 2010 National Championship Defensive Most Valuable Player.
The Dallas Cowboys should use their ninth overall pick to select corner-back Prince Amukamara from the University of Nebraska. He played in eight games in his freshman season and recorded only four tackles. Prince started in three of 13 games in his sophomore
year and had 32 tackles along with a solitary sack. He was named a first team All-Big 12 selection after doing exceptionally well in his junior season, recording 60 tackles, five interceptions and two sacks.
The University of Washington will likely see their former starting quarter-back, Jake Locker, going to the Washington Redskins, as the tenth overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft’s first round. If Locker had taken part in the 2010 NFL Draft, he would have likely
placed higher in the draft since he has had an up and down performance in his senior year at Washington, but is still good. He has been called “a bigger, taller, right-handed version of [Tennessee Titans quarterback] Steve Young.”
He led the Washington Huskies football team to the Holiday Bowl in 2010 and won. Locker also received an honorable All-American mention in 2010 as well as an honorable mention All-Pac 10 in 2009. In his freshman year at Washington, Locker was named Freshman
All-American and Pac-10 Freshman of the Year for 2007. However, if Locker’s draft stock slips, let us just hope that the Seattle Seahawks take him in their 26th overall draft pick. He would like nothing more than to go back home to Seattle.
So now that the top 10 picks have been discussed, all we can do is wait and hope, until the end of April for the Draft.
