2011 National League Cy Young Award goes to Los Angeles Dodgers’ Clayton Kershaw – MLB News
The Los Angeles Dodgers’ Clayton Kershaw achieved one of the key milestones of his career on Thursday, November 17 to win the 2011 National League Cy Young Award.
Kershaw officially accepted the award at Dodger Stadium in the presence of some of baseball’s some big names, including and not limited to, former stolen-base Champion Maury Wills and current team-mates Matt Kemp, James Loney and Cy Young winners Fernando
Valenzuela and Don Newcombe.
"Winning is the most important thing," he said "It always has been and always will be. I don't really care who I'm pitching against.
Of the 32 first-place votes, Kershaw notched up 27 of them and 207 points in Baseball Writers’ Association of America’s balloting. Engaged in a competition, considering Cliff Lee, Ian Kennedy and Roy Halladay being in the same race, it was no less than a
herculean task itself. Halladay was second with his 133 points while Lee got 90 points being followed by Kennedy who stood fourth.
"We weren't really satisfied with this year. The last two months of the season, we played really well, and hopefully we can build off that. We're all working toward a bigger goal, and that's to win everything. And I think we're on the same page for next
year."
Kershaw was one of the big names who attracted the critics and fans attention. The 23-year-old young pitcher is full of potential, looking for bigger dreams to materialise with his performances. The fact that he won more than 20 games during the season made
him all the more important in the eyes of his team-mates and rival teams.
For him winning 20 games was special. Also, importantly, the pitcher had won the Gold Glove in the start of November, a recognition that he certainly deserved given his performance. He has won the National League’s Triple Crown for pitchers as well.
In the last nine years, this was the 10th Cy Young Pitcher Award that has come to any pitcher belonging to the Los Angeles Dodgers. His 2.28 ERA remained one of the best features of the season.
