2011 OFC Futsal Championship gets a major boost with vast media coverage: Futsal News
2011 Oceanic Football Confederation (OFC) Futsal Championship will be broadcasted live. This year the championship will be telecasted widely in the region this time. The 2011 OFC Futsal Championship is going to start from May 16 and will conclude on
May 20. The event will be staged at the Vodafone Arena Suva, Fiji.
The stage is set teams are ready and so as the media. All this has been made possible because of an agreement among the national television corporation, sports broadcasting channel and regional satellite provider.
This year there are eight teams and it is the eighth edition of the championship. All the matches will be broadcasted live across Fiji. Selected group matches, semi-finals and the finals will be shown in Solomon Islands, Tahiti and Vanuatu. This transmission
will be broadcasted in these countries through a collaboration of OFC’s and its broadcast partners in these countries.
OFC coordinated with the regional broadcasters to screen daily highlights and full matches on the local sports channels of the region.

The general secretary of the OFC Tai Nicholas said, “We face a lot of challenges in the Pacific with regards to technology and satellite costs but we have worked hard to find solutions so that these tournaments can be aired throughout the region.”
The Futsal championship is very important for the teams as the winner will be qualifying for the 2012 FIFA Futsal championship. Solomon Island is the strongest contender for the title. They have qualified for the 2008 FIFA Futsal Championship. They
have won the championship thrice earlier.
The eight teams will be divided in to two groups. Vanuatu, Kiribati, New Zealand and the host nation Fiji are placed in group ‘A’ in the draws. New Caledonia, Tuvalu, Solomon Islands and Tahiti are placed in Group ‘B’.
The first match of the in event in Group ‘A’ will be contested amongst Vanuatu and Fiji Islands, where as in group ‘B’ Tahiti and Tuvalu will be facing each other.
