2011 PBZ Zagreb Indoors: First Round Results, Day 1 – Part 1
The ATP Tour is currently holding the first European event of the year in Croatia, at the capital of the country. The PBZ Zagreb Indoors will take place from the 31st of January to the 6th of February, 2011. It is one of the ATP 250
Series, and takes place on a hard, fast indoor court. The defender of the title is countryman Marin Cilic.
Five singles matches took place at the arena, Dom Sportova, today.
Igor Kunitsyn def. Jaroslav Pospisil
The first match was between Russian pro Igor Kunitsyn and Czech player Jaroslav Pospisil. Kunitsyn emerged victorious, clearing the first round in straight sets. He defeated Pospisil 6-3, 6-2. The match lasted just over an hour and fifteen minutes.
Jaroslav Pospisil scored a total of two aces against his opponent, who scored three. He saved 50% of his break points, allowing Kunitsyn to win seven out of fourteen. Meanwhile, Kunitsyn also saved three out of six break points.
Igor Kunitsyn is the current World Number 95, while Jaroslav Pospisil is World Number 134. Both are 29-years old, and both play right-handed. Kunitsyn has won one career title, while Pospisil has not won any. These two players had not met each other in a
match before this.
Radek Stepanek def. Stefan Koubek
The second match was played between Czech pro Radek Stepanek and Austrian Stefan Koubek, with Stepanek taking the match 6-3, 6-2. The match lasted fifty-eight minutes.
In this match, Stepanek scored the only ace. He did not save the solitary break point against himself, while his opponent managed to save one of six break points.
Stepanek is currently World Number 63, and his opponent is in the lower ATP 200 at Number 173. Koubek is 34 years old, while Stepanek is two years younger at 32. The Czech pro plays right-handed, while Koubek plays left-handed. Stepanek has won four titles
during his career, while Koubek has won three. Their last meeting was in Memphis in 2009, in the round of the last 16. Stepanek defeated Koubek 6-2, 6-4.
Blaz Kavcic def. Mischa Zverev
The third match of the day was held between Slovakian Blaz Kavcic and Mischa Zverev, of Germany. It lasted one hour and sixteen minutes, with Kavcic winning in straight sets 6-2, 7-5.
Kavcic fired off six aces during the match, while Zverev only shot one. Kavcic couldn't save the only break point he offered , and Zverev fought off 3 out of 7 break points successfully.
This was Kavcic and Zverev’s first professional encounter. Zverev is the higher ranked player at World Number 78, while Kavcic is ranked World Number 83. Both players are 23-years of age. Kavcic plays right-handed, while Zverev playes left-handed. The two
players have not won any career titles yet.
