2011 PTT Pattaya Open, First Round: Ana Ivanovic defeats Nudnida Luangnam
Serbian Number 1 Ana Ivanovic defeated her first-round opponent Nudnida Luangnam in straight sets 6-0, 6-2, doing away with the Thailand local player in just over an hour.
Luangnam is currently World Number 220, while Ana Ivanovic is World Number 19. Ivanovic is also the second seed at the 2011 PTT Pattaya Open
The 23-year old easily defeated her opponent, scoring a bagel in the first set. She continued the superb performance despite Luangnam’s attempt to recover in the second set, and defeated her once again 6-2 to win the match.
The Serbian player, who currently resides in Basel, was in control throughout the match. She fired off five aces and saved one of two break points during the match. On the other hand, Luangnam faced trouble throughout the meeting; she was unable to score
any aces, and made four double faults. She and Ivanovic both played the same number of service games: seven.
Ivanovic won a total of thirty service points out of forty-nine, making her percentage 61 percent. On the other hand, Luangnam only won ten of thirty-six service points for 28 percent. Ivanovic also won 72 percent of her return points by winning 26 out of
26, and Luangnam came up short again with only nineteen winning return points out of forty-nine.
Six-foot-tall Ivanovic turned pro in August 2003, and has amassed a total of 10 career titles over the past eight years. This is the first match she has won in the year 2011.
Luangnam has played one match so far this year, and has not won any contests yet.
Ivanovic victory means she has cleared the first round of the event, and will proceed to the second round. She will be facing 36 year old American pro Jill Craybas, who defeated another local player, Noppawan Lertcheewakarn, in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 to
reach the second round.
