2011 Pan American Cup Men’s Volleyball Tournament to kick next week
Volleyball Canada has recently announced that the sixth edition of the Pan American Cup Men’s Volleyball Tournament will take centre stage next Monday, June 13. The thrilling action of volleyball will be continued for six days and the final results will
be revealed on Saturday, 18th June. Robert-Guertin Centre in the Quebec city of Gatineau will serve as the host of this exciting volleyball campaign. Teams from ten countries in the South American zone and NORCECA will hit the city for some world
class action. The men’s national volleyball squads from Brazil, Mexico, hosts Canada, Argentina, Puerto Rico, United States, Dominican Republic, Bahamas and Panama will be on board to showcase their skills.
The Pan Am Cup has great importance for being the first major event of the 2011 season. It is significant also because it will serve as a Qualification Tournament for the 2012 London Olympic Games. The successful teams of the tournament will earn points
to qualify for the 2012 London Olympic Games. According to the set formula, the top two teams of the tournament will be confirmed for the Olympics via Pan Am Cup. Last year, Puerto Rico exhibited a prolific game at the Pan American Cup and qualified for 2011
FIVB World League.
This is a great honour for the Ottawa-Gatineau region to host the campaign. It has been several years since Gatineau hosted any senior international volleyball tournament.
The opening ceremony of the tournament will be held on Monday. The athletes from the area schools are invited to join the fun as Volleyball Canada has announced special discount for schools.
The opening ceremony will be followed by the first encounter of the 2011 Pan American Cup. Home team of Canada will take on Puerto Rico in the first match. The players of national team are fully prepared to give a wonderful performance in the presence of
local fans. Canadian team will play its second match of the round-robin against Dominican Republic on Wednesday.
The home team will have certain advantages in the tournament. They will be equipped with the stupendous support of the home crowd. The familiar playing conditions would be another competitive edge for them. Canada is reportedly ready to compete for the Olympic
berths through the Pan American Cup and believe it is their best chance of making it to the big game.
The preliminary round of the tournament will conclude on Wednesday and competition will enter the quarter-final stage on Thursday. The semi-finals will be played on Friday, while the most influential ‘Final Four’ matches will be covered on Saturday. American
team is defending the title this year, while Argentina is regarded as runner-up of last year.
