2011 Penn Relays at Franklin Field, Philadelphia: Results
The 2011 Penn Relays is underway at Franklin Field, Philadelphia. Many famous relay teams from all around of the country are participating in the event, which is providing the spectators
with amazing performances.
American athletics from all levels of high-school to college are leading in the 117th Penn Relays and displaying their brilliant dashes. In the field’s event, Nick Vena has set
many records to the credit of his high school.
Nick Vena of Morristown, New Jersey, succeeded in giving a superb performance by winning the high-school title in the category of boy’s shot put. He now stands triumphant for the fourth time
consecutively. He broke the Penn Relay’s record by hitting the put at 22.18 metres, which he has improved from 22.01 metres set in 2009.
Among women's high-school title, Haley Pierce won the 3000 metres race. She also became the second fastest by clocking the run in 9:16:35 minutes, which is just a second less to the Olympian,
Cathy Schiro O’Berin.
Villanova clinched the title for the 24th time in Penn Relays' history. He clocked his split in 9:37.93 minutes, Brian Tetreault clocked it in 2:57.86 minutes, Carlton Bowers in 46.89 seconds,
Samuel Ellison in 1:51.03 and Matthew Gibney finished in 4:02.16 seconds.
In the women sprint medley, LSU won the medley relay for the fifth year consecutively and seventh time overall. The time of their performance was clocked at 3:48.45 minutes, followed by Florida
at 3:50.50 minutes.
In the Men’s sprint, Ryan Foster gravelled out the final home-stretch for Penn State’s first Penn Relays title. His split of 1:48.78 minutes granted the Nittany Lions a 3:17.11 minutes -
3:17.30 minutes victory over Florida. The Gators led by defending NCAA 100-metre dash champ Jeff Demps.
In the boy’s mile race, Matt Jablonski (Loyola Blakefield, Baltimore, Md.) crossed the winning line by one-hundreth of a second more than Chad Noelle (Greene Central, Greene, NY), the timings
were 4:10.37 minutes – 4:10.38 minutes, respectively.
The 3000 metre sprint was won by Morgan Pearson, who left everyone behind and attained the trophy by clocking it in 8:23.34 minutes.
