2011 Pink Ribbon Charity Pro Am starts at South West Snooker Academy – Snooker news
The 2011 Pink Ribbon Charity Pro Am is starting from this Thursday at the South West Snooker Academy.
The four-day tournament, which is already the largest pro am in the world after its 2010 successes, is being expected to be even bigger this time.
This time almost all the established names are participating in the event. It includes the 2011 World Snooker Champion John Higgins and the 21-year-old Crucible runner-up, Judd Trump. Moreover, the likes of the 2010 champion, Michael Holt and six-time Crucible
finalist, Jimmy White will also be there along with Andrew Pagett and former world champions, Graeme Dott and Stephen Maguire.
The organisers are especially happy about the participation of the 15-year-old, Kacper Filipiak, who has recently won the European under-21 tournament. He will be the youngest professional to be on the World Snooker tour in the 2011-12 season.
Each player is bound to donate at least 25 pounds in order to participate in the event and this provides an excellent chance for the amateurs to test themselves against the top snooker players of the world. Meanwhile the players also get a chance to practice
and test themselves before the start of the season.
This year the tournament, which will likely attract a lot of media coverage, also has a 10,000-pound prize for the winner’s chest.
The organiser of the tournament, Paul Mount, told the media that they raised 6,000 pounds in 2010 for Breast Cancer awareness and this year they are expecting a lot more.
The amateur qualifying rounds will take place during the first two days. However, from Friday, June 3, 2011, almost 40 of the world’s leading professionals will join the tournament. The top players who will arrive on a pink bus will all be welcomed by a
balloon release ceremony. The last-16 round will start off on June 5 and will go through to the final.
