2011 Premier League Snooker: Top players gather at Potters Leisure Centre in Norfolk - Snooker news
The top ten players from around the world will assemble at the Potters Leisure Centre in Norfolk again this year to participate in the PartyCasino.com sponsored Premier League Snooker 2011. The event, that will commence from August 18 and run until November 27, will bring more excitement and thrill to the game with the new format devised by World Snooker.
A couple of weeks ago, snooker’s governing body, World Snooker, announced a brand new format for the upcoming premier league at Hopton-on-Sea. The world snooker has added players to the list who will be participating in the competition.
According to the list, there will now be ten players, rather than the previous seven, who will battle for the last-four spot. The list comprises of players who have grabbed major events in the snooker calendar. The World Seniors championship is also included in the list this time to make the event more adventurous.
The contenders’ list is as follows:
Ronnie O’Sullivan (Defending champion)
John Higgins (World champion)
Ding Junhui (Masters champion)
Mark Williams (German Masters champion)
Ali Carter (Shanghai Masters champion)
Judd Trump (China Open champion)
Neil Robertson (World Open champion)
Shaun Murphy (PTC Finals champion)
Matthew Stevens (Championship League winner)
Jimmy White (World Seniors champion)
Potters chairman, Brian Potter, is quite excited on the return of Premier League Snooker to Norfolk and said, “It’s hugely satisfying for both Norfolk residents and the Potters’ team for us to be hosting this major televised sporting event for a fourth year in a row. And, with the new format now in place, the competition is set to be as fierce as ever.”
Snooker boss, Barry Hearn, hopes that the new format will bring further thrills to the event and will add more popularity and viewership to the game, which is his dream.
He commented, “With the Premier League moving forward with an expanded field, it seemed only right to invite the winners of every major championship last season.”
With Ronnie attempting to win his tenth League title, he will be facing stiff competition from the likes of Higgins, Williams, Trump, Ding, Robertson and Murphy.
He added, “We’ve even managed to include the World Seniors Champion in the qualifying line-up and I’m sure over the quick fire format, Jimmy will cause a few surprises.”
The players will be awarder points per frame in the round-robin session, followed by the total prize money of £ 210,000 after the play-offs in November.
