2011 Regions Morgan Keegan Championships: Andy Roddick vs Janko Tipsarevic – Preview
Home favourite and top seed Andy Roddick is set to meet world number 51 Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia in the third round of ATP World Tour 500 series Regions Morgan Keegan Championships 2011, held annually in Memphis, USA.
Andy Roddick will be looking to avenge his unforgettable US Open 2010 loss at the hands of Serbian, who has the talent and the skills to create problems for the American. Hence we will be expecting another nail biting finish between
the two contestants.
Former US Open Champion, Andy Roddick hasn’t had a very smooth ride in the tournament. In his previous match at the ongoing Memphis Tournament 2011, he struggled against the Lithuanian Richard Berankis. Roddick lost the first set
4-6 to the 20 year old but denied victory to the challenger with a strong comeback as he sealed the match 4-6, 6-2 and 6-3. The American powerhouse fired aces regularly in the later part of the match, asserting dominance over his opponent. Now the veteran
American is all set to take on his rival, who is known for high accuracy and agility and also caused a stir last year when he upset Roddick at the US Open.
In contrast, World number 51, Janko Tipsarevic has been a dominant force so far. In his last match he destroyed the American qualifier Ryan Sweeting in straight sets 6-0 7-6(7). The Serbian has always proved to be a tough opponent
for Roddick, who is working hard to restore lost pride and glory. Tipsarevic is also the Serbian number 3 behind World number3, Novak Djokovic and World number 28, Troicki. His contributions towards Serbia’s maiden Davis Cup victory last year is memorable.
Andy Roddick has enjoyed a very promising season so far. He looked in good form and his success rate is also good. The former US Open champion reached the final of Brisbane International earlier this year where he was defeated
by the deserving winner, Robin Soderling. He then reached the 4th round of Australian Open 2011, losing to Swiss Wawrinka.
In terms of head to head, the Serbian has the advantage on his side. In their previous three encounters Tipsarevic has been the more successful, winning two of them. He defeated Roddick in Wimbledon 2008 and then at US Open 2010.
Andy Roddick on the other handhas managed only one win which was back in Wimbledon 2006.
Prediction: The Serbian may have the head-to-head advantage to his credit but considering their recent performances and form, the American is the favourite to win this one. However, if Tipsarevic can repeat his
performance of US Open 2010, he would not be easy to overcome.
