2011 Rugby World Cup: Week One Review
The 2011 Rugby World Cup (RWC) tournament kick started with an impressive opening ceremony on Friday, September 9.  During the first week of the 2011 global rugby tournament, 16 teams contested
in eight matches.
The 16 matches were played during the weekend on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Although the event saw some closely contested encounters, however, no real upset took place during the weekend
games
Canada, Georgia, Russia and Samoa are the only teams, which did not played match during the opening week of the 2011 RWC.
In Pool A fixtures, All Blacks played against the Tonga, while Les Bleus took the challenge of the Japan. All Blacks defeated Tonga 41 – 10 at Eden Park, Auckland on Friday, September 9. All
Blacks secured the Try Bonus point, which has helped them to secure the top position in Pool A.
France joins the All Blacks with five points, courtesy of their bonus point victory over Japan at North Harbour Stadium, on Saturday, September 10.
In Pool B, Scotland and England won their respective matches against the Romania and Argentina. Scotland with his try bonus point victory over Romania has enabled them to secure the top place
on the tables of their respective pool.
Scotland defeated Romania 34 – 24 at Rugby Park Stadium, Invercargill on Saturday, September 10. In other Pool B matches, England held on to their nerves to edge past the Pumas in one of the
RWC’s early thrillers to register a 13 – 9 win over the Argentina. The match left many of the Pumas players either injured or bruised.
In Pool C, Australia and Ireland are placed at the first and second position with their five and four points respectively. Wallabies defeated the Azzurri’s 32 – 6 at North Shore City on Sunday,
September 11. The Wallabies' four tries in the match earned them a Try Bonus point.
Meanwhile, Ireland manages to sneak past the spirited USA Eagles side to register their first win of the tournament. The match was played at Yarrow Stadium, New Plymouth on Saturday, September
11, as the final scorecard read 22 – 10.
In Pool D, Fiji and Springboks won their matches against Namibia and Wales. The Springboks encounter against the Wales is being termed the match of the week, as the world champions displayed
an exceptional performance to kick-start their title defence.
Fiji defeated Namibia 49 – 25, and the Try Bonus Point has helped them to secure a top place in the Pool D.
