2011 Sony Ericsson Open: Munoz-De La Nava, Bolelli through to the second round of qualifying draw
Daniel Munoz-De La Nava beats Horacio Zeballos 6-2, 6-2
World number 145 Daniel Munoz-De La Nava of Spain upset world number 88 Horacio Zeballos of Argentina in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 in the opening round of the qualifying draw at the Sony Ericsson Open on Monday.
Munoz-De La Nava broke Zeballos twice in the opening set, winning it 6-2. The Spanish hit a single ace and 56 per cent of the first serves in the opening set. He won amazingly 100 per cent of the points on his first serve. On the
other hand, Zeballos hit 64 per cent of the first serves, winning 63 per cent of the points on them.
Zeballos took the early lead in the second set as he broke Daniel Munoz-De La Nava in the second game. However, the Spanish broke back immediately and won six games in a row to win the second set 6-2.
Munoz-De La Nava hit a single ace and same number of double fault in the second set. The Spanish delivered 50 per cent of the first serves and converted 80 per cent of them into points. The 29-year-old converted 3 of the 6 break
points he received in the second set.
The right handed will face world number 154 Paolo Lorenzi of Italy in the second round. Lorenzi cruised past world number 125 Joao Souza of Brazil in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 in the first round.
Simone Bolelli defeats Izak Van Der Merwe 6-2, 6-3
Simone Bolelli of Italy ousted Izak Van Der Merwe of South Africa in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 to move to the second round of the qualifying draw. The Italian took 1 hour and 14 minutes to undo his opponent.
Bolelli broke his opponent in the fifth and seventh game of the first set, winning it 6-2. He hit 74 per cent of the first serves, winning 88 per cent of the points on them. The Italian saved all the 3 break points he faced in
the first set. His opponent saved only 2 of the 4 break points he faced in the opening set.
The proceedings in the second set were not quite different from the first set. Bolelli broke Van Der Merwe twice in the second set to win it 6-3. He delivered 83 per cent of the first serves in the second set and converted 75 per
cent of them into points. The Italian converted 2 of the 4 break points he received in the set. He did not face a single break point in the second set.
Bolelli is drawn to meet Alex Bogomolov Jr. of USA in the second round.
