2011 Sony Ericsson Open: Renata Voracova and Sania Mirza head to head in the second round of qualifiers
Renata Voracova outplayed Corinna Dentoni
World number 92 Renata Voracova of Czech Republic beat world number 149 Corinna Dentoni of Italy in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 in the first round of the qualifying draw at the Sony Ericsson Open. The tournament is being played at the
Tennis Center at Crandon Park, Miami.
She struck in 70 per cent of the first serves and won 78 per cent of points from them. In comparison, Dentoni did not hit even a single ace but managed to strike in 60 per cent of the first serves, winning 50 per cent of points
from them. The Czech saved 5 out of 6 break point opportunities whereas, Dentoni managed to save 50 per cent in the opening set.
Voracova took advantage of her break point opportunities and that delivered her the set with 6-3 score.
After achieving the first set, the Czech didn’t look behind, breaking her opponent thrice in the second set clinching a 6-3 victory.
The 27-year old Voracova delivered 52 per cent of the first serves in the second set and converted 83 per cent of them into points. She did not face a single break point in the final set. On the other hand, Dentoni converted 50
per cent of the break point opportunities she faced in the second set.
 
Sania Mirza outplayed Xinyun Han
India’s Sania Mirza, a nineteenth seed here, defeated her Chinese Opponent Xinyun Han to move to the second round of the qualifiers. The Indian took 1 hour and 7 minutes to break her opponent in two straight sets.
Mirza broke Han in the 12th game to clinch a 7-5 victory. She delivered 66 per cent of the first serves, winning 71 per cent of the points on them. The Indian failed to save any of the break point opportunity she faced. In comparison,
Han struck 56 per cent of the first serves, winning 68 per cent of the points on them. Han double faulted 5 times which turned out to be the reason of her failure in the opening set.
After losing a fatiguing opening set, Xinyun did not rise again giving away the second set with 6-0 set score. She delivered 76 per cent of the first serves, winning a meager 38 per cent of the points on them. Whereas Mirza carrying
her winning momentum all the way, struck in 57 per cent of the first serves on target and won 58 per cent of points on them.
Mirza saved 100 per cent of her break point opportunities and that gave her the set with a bagel win.
