2011 Stanley Cup Finals: 3 Reasons why Vancouver Canucks will win Stanley Cup against Boston Bruins
Vancouver Canucks has finally reached the National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Finals after 17 years, having their last chance in 1994 against New York Rangers but loosing in a close seven-game series.
Canucks fought hard against the defending Stanley Cup champions, Chicago Blackhawks in a tight game seven which they won in overtime as Alex Burrows scored the game-winning goal.
Nashville Predators was next in the Western Conference semifinals and Canucks played much better to win in six games as Daniel Sedin’s lead extending goal proved heavy for Predators.
Next came San Jose Sharks in the conference finals which was expected to be Canucks’ toughest series but due to the gradual betterment in their game-play, the Canucks won the series easily by 4-1.
Looking at Canucks’ momentum which they have picked up from the previous three series, it will not be surprising to see them sweep the Stanley Cup Finals against Boston Bruins since they have the capability to do so.
Every statement must be logical, thus, putting forth three reasons why Vancouver Canucks will take the cup this year will give fans a better picture at what we are talking about.
All-Rounder Players
Something Boston Bruins lack is all-rounder players. This is a huge disadvantage for it since Canucks have all sorts of players who can defend and score.
Besides the Sedin Twins and Ryan Kesler, who are extremely talented players, Canucks’ defensemen, Sami Salo, Alexander Elder, Dan Hamuis, Aaron Rome, Christian Ehrhoff and a number of others can score multiple goals in a single game with ease.
Boston only has a handful of scorers like Milan Lucic, David Krejci and Nathan Horton which will certainly put them in a handicap situation.
Sedin Twins and Ryan Kesler
Probably the biggest offensive attacking trio in the NHL is the Henrik Sedin, Daniel Sedin and Ryan Kesler combo.
It is hard to remember the last time Vancouver had such an offensive onslaught, but this is its prime time and the opportunity is Canucks’ to grab.
If these three players are able to play with the same chemistry they have been playing with throughout the regular and postseason, Vancouver winning the cup should not come as a surprise to anyone.
Canucks’ Gradual Improvement
Analysing Canucks’ past three series, we saw a slow but steady improvement in its ability to win and handle pressure. It was a near disappointment in the quarterfinals against Chicago Blackhawks, but Canucks pulled through spectacularly.
If it continues this slow but sure improvement which Boston has not shown, Vancouver can go for four straight wins easily.
Vancouver Canucks has worked hard to reach where it is today and losing the Stanley Cup Finals against an unstable team like Boston would be a huge disappointment. The best thing for Canucks would be to take an early lead in the series and use its defensive
skills against Bruins to lock them down.
Roberto Luongo has had his fair share of play-off games now and playing opposite to Tim Thomas should not be much of a challenge.
We will need to wait to see whether Vancouver can continue its momentum when it faces Boston Bruins in game one on Wednesday, June 1st, 2011.
