2011 USA Beach Volleyball Junior Tour turns out to be huge success
The 2011 USA Beach Volleyball Junior Tour featured an exciting event for boys and girls of the age of 12 to 18 this past Saturday, June 12. The city of Santa Cruz, California welcomed 22 aspiring young beach volleyball pairs. The tournament is generally
regarded as the NoCal Open. The passionate beach volleyball athletes had to face the foggy and stormy weather but they did well in the end. The one-day event brought a great buzz to the area as boys and girls demonstrated their great performances in their
relevant categories.
Under-12 category
The pairing of Lillian Barber and Mariana Molina launched their game in the U-12 girls’ category. They put up a valiant effort and finished in the top slot. They were up against the duo of Tori Dilfer and Madeline Holland in the final showdown. Barber and
Molina proved to be better in every aspect of the game and got hold of the first position at the NoCal Open.
Under-14 section
The tandem of Shannon Richardson and Alexandra Kim developed an amazing chemistry between them and pushed everyone behind in the U-14 girls’ group. They were challenged by different teams but none of them could hinder their performance. Richardson and Kim
worked out a great performance and clawed their way to the final match. They contested their skills and tactics with Breanna Roy and Jenifer Desanto in the final encounter. Richardsone/Kim did well and took away the title, while Roy and Desanto had to be content
with the second position in the standings.
Under-16 division
The girls’ U-16 group had some wonderful matches. Two top pairs settled for the final encounter of the tournament. One side of the net was captured by Alexandria Espinosa/Kelsey Crawford, while Shannon Cotton / Alexandra Wheeler took their positions on the
other side of the sand court. A cracking fight was staged and both sides applied the best of their tactics to get a hold of the top position. Eventually, the former duo managed to subdue their opponents and were labelled as the top team of the U-16 category.
Under-18 competition
The U-18 competition was under huge focus from the organisers. The players had more experience and they showcased extreme action on the centre court. The tandem of Lizzy Tardieu and Lare Powers topped this category with a fine display of beach volleyball
tactics. They held off Belle Obert and Bailey Humes for victory in the final match.
Boys’ division
A total of seven boys’ teams were on board to stage the fight for beach volleyball supremacy. The U-14 team of Gage Worsley and Jordan Ewert pulled off success in the final match and settled for top position. Joe Worsley and Blake Markland went for the second
position after losing in the final. Likewise, the duo of Tyler Dammann and Derek Wolf overpowered Ian Richardson and Avi Agarwal in the finals and got hold of the top slot in U-16 category. The boys’ U-18 pairing of Jon Ferarri and Evan Ormondo did well and
paved their way for final victory.
