2011 USA Women’s National Hockey team announced for 2012 London Olympics: Hockey News
Lee Bodimeade, the Head Coach of USA Women’s National Team has selected and announced a team of twenty-eight players for 2011 USA Women’s National Team after analysing players’ performance in the Women’s National Championship, which is recently being held
in Washington, D.C. The selected squad will represent USA over the next year in 2012 London Olympics as well as in Pan-American games.
The team has been selected from over 100 players, who have competed throughout the incredible and successfully planned tournament. The selected players will now fulfil their dream to represent the country at the highest level.
The squad comprises of twenty-three persistent national team players, out of which ten members are from 2008 Beijing Olympics team. The remaining five are from 2010 National Development Team.
Kathleen Sharkey, who was the top goal scorer in the Women’s National Championship, can be a great prospect for US hockey. She has a tremendous track record at university level and has also been awarded with a number of prizes.
“Moving up to the National Team will provide these players more playing opportunities to take the next step forward and play at the senior level. Sharkey being the leading goal scorer at the tournament proves that she can play at the senior level,” Lee Bodimeade,
the Head Coach explained about the selection of national Team.
Michelle Cesan, the team-mate of Sharkey at Princeton University was also selected in the team. Prior to this she has remained a valuable member of Under-21 USA Women’s National Team and after that in the Development Team. It was her brilliant performance
in the Women’s National Championship that earned her a place in the prestigious National Team and more importantly she has also been selected in the Champion Challenge side.
“The most significant selection of the tournament, was adding Michelle Cesan to the Champions Challenge travelling squad. Cesan has been on our radar for some time now and we were happy with her performance here and how her game has developed,” the Head
Coach, Bodimeade further added on the selection of Cesan.
For the Champions Challenge tournament, which is going to be held in Dublin, Ireland from June 18 to 26, eighteen selected members will have some rest and will start their practice from June 2 at the Olympic Training Centre in Chula Vista.
Meanwhile, Katie O’Donnell has been awarded the 2010 Women’s National Squad Player of the Year having won most “Player of the Match” awards.
