2011 World Snooker Q School Event 1: Day Three – Session 3 Results
The third session on the third day of World Snooker Q School Event 1 ended successfully at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield. The event has entered into the second round with a couple of stunning
competitions at the end of the session.
The session featured four matches from the first round and two from the second, however, the thrill and excitement remained constant during the session’s play. There were a couple of easy matches
in the beginning of the session and the only thrilling encounter was between Lee Spick and Luke Simmonds before the fourth session.
The 4pm session started with David Gilbert and Steve Judd battling for the second-round spot. Judd hit a sensational century clearance of 114 but it could only win him a single frame by 0-118. Gilbert,
on the other hand, stole the show with some excellent snooker skills as he fired his own breaks of 65, 41 and 67 to grab the victory by 4-1. Gilbert will next meet James Welsh, who got a walkover in the same session before Gilbert’s match.
Lee Stephens received the same medicine as Gilbert. He lost to Martin O’Donnell by a comprehensive scoreline of 1-4. The first round finished with Jeff Cundy’s whitewash victory over the Englishman,
Phil O’Kane. Cundy pocketed decent knocks of 69, 56 and 33 to win the match.
The first match of second round was played between Andrew Norman and Alex Borg, where Norman thrashed Borg convincingly by 4-1 with a frame scoreline of 48-57, 76-32, 82-0, 67-46, 49-39. Norman gave
in a couple of classic breaks of 48, 78 and 42 to finish the game in his favour.
The longest and most exciting match of the session was the one played between Luke Simmonds and Lee Spick. The match was a see-saw affair with tremendous snooker shots from both players and ended
in a decider frame, with Simmonds moving ahead with one-frame win by 4-3 at the end of the 4pm session.
However, all the favourite potters moved on in the session, grabbing comprehensive wins at the end. The first event of the Qualifying School (Q School) will end on Monday, May 16, while the second
event will begin the very next day on Tuesday, May 17.
The overall result of the session is as follows.
Round 1
James Welsh w/o Shahbaaz Khan
David Gilbert 4-1 Steve Judd
Martin O’Donnell 4-1 Lee Stephens
Jeff Cundy 4-0 Phil O’Kane

Round 2
Andrew Norman 4-1 Alex Borg
Luke Simmonds 4-3 Lee Spick
