2011 World Snooker Q School Event 1: Zhang Anda, Joel Walker, Lasse Munstermann, David Grace among the winners
The best-of-seven frame session on day two of this season’s World Snooker Q School concluded at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
The results for the morning session are given below:
Zhang Anda 4-1 Alex Taubman
A highly impressive performance from the Chinese professional, Zhang Anda, saw him knocking the first century break of the event. Although Taubman took the first blood without doing anything outstanding, Anda pocketed the next four frames on a bounce. The
Chinese also enjoyed magnificent breaks of 40, 42, 67, 32 and 116 to secure a place in the next round.
Thepchaiya Un-Nooh 4-2 Stephen Craigie
In this spectacular match, both players showcased their superb break-building skills. The Englishman, Craigie, dominated the first frame with a couple of quick fire 52 and 51, before the Thailand professional, Un-Nooh, started piling his
own breaks of 70 and 88 in the following second and third frame respectively. Un-Nooh also won the fourth with classy breaks of 36 and 61 to lead 3-1. Craigie tried to stretch the match by winning the fifth game with a decisive break of 50, but bad news awaited
the Englishman, as Un-Nooh killed the match in the following game.
Joel Walker 4-3 Li Hang
Many would've predicted the outcome of this match incorrectly, as the Chinese Li Hang, who outplayed the likes of former World Champions Ken Doherty and Graeme Dott in the recent China Open, lost his battle against Joel Walker. It was was an impressive performance
from Walker as he was down 0-2 before clawing back to win 4-3 in the end.
Lasse Munstermann 3-4 Mitchell Travis
The German hope, Lasse Munstermann lost to Mitchell Travis in the final deciding frame. The players traded the first six frames with only one reasonable break of 65, which came from the German in the second. However, in the final deciding frame, Travis fired
quick breaks of 55 and 32 to seal his win.
David Grace 4-3 Gareth Allen
It was yet another fully stretched battle between the Englishman, David Grace and the Welshman, Gareth Allen, which went in favour of the Englishman. There were no reasonable breaks seen in the match, however, Grace managed to book a place in the next round
with a top break of 49.
Robbie Williams 4-1 Adam Duffy
The last match of the morning session saw both Englishmen head to head. Robbie Williams was to be the winner though as he registered a comfortable 4-1 win over his fellow countryman, Adam Duffy. Duffy racked up marvellous breaks of 63, 72 and 96 on his way
to victory.
