2011 World Superbike Champion Carlos Checa might test Ducati’ MotoGP 2012 prototype – MotoGP news
Althea Racing rider in World Superbike Championship Carlos Checa has revealed that he might get his hands on Ducati’s 2012 MotoGP prototype, the Desmosedici GP12.
The Spaniard will conduct further test sessions with the MotoGP Ducati Team. The Bologna factory has ran out of officially allotted eight test day in the season. After being left with only one test day, Ducati had to plan something better that would not
hamper its testing.
On the positive side, Checa has recently earned his crown for the 2011 World Superbike Championship. He was short of only three points to seal the 2011 title after the Imola event. With a double victory at Magny Cours, he was announced as the champion of
2011 WSBK season.
Checa said, “I am now in Ducati and now we have to decide for 2012, which we know will be with the same bike. And later we'll see. In fact I may soon test the 1000 MotoGP Ducati because they cannot do many tests with Valentino and asked me if I could do
it. I think if I test a motorcycle it will be likely be the MotoGP before the Superbike.”
The factory team rider Valentino Rossi was injured during the first lap crash at the Grand Prix of Japan.
After a detailed medical examination, Rossi was declared with a minor fracture to his artificial joint in right hand. However, the Italian will be participating in the Australian Grand Prix.
With an injured Rossi and only one day left in official testing, Carlos Checa was called in to help Ducati.
For the last official test day, the second team rider Nicky Hayden will carry on with the session, as Rossi is not fit to ride. Hayden will test the GP12 on Thursday at the Jerez circuit.
After that, Checa will perform the sessions with the factory team. The Spanish rider has won the championship on Ducati and has a vast experience of premier class racing.
