The 2010 Formula 1 season was one of the most exhilarating and dramatic F1 seasons in the history of the sport and it seemed that predicting a single event of a Grand Prix weekend was nearly impossible as each race had a lot of
surprises in store.
The season began with Ferrari on top of the list but it did not take long for them to deteriorate and eventually, Red Bull and McLaren started battling it out in the first half of the season mostly. The second half on the other
hand began with McLaren on top of the list but Ferrari made an outstanding comeback and by the end of the 2010 season, Ferrari was in a much better position in the drivers’ standings as Fernando Alonso finished just 4 points behind Sebastian Vettel.
There were 5 drivers actively racing for the Drivers’ title until the very end and it was impossible to predict each race. As a result, betting became extremely difficult but due to all this excitement and uncertainty, the 2010
season stands out as the only one of its kind in history.
The top 3 teams were equally challenging one another until the very end but at one point or another, everyone knew that Red Bull had better pace than their rivals and since they were more consistent, they deserved the 2010 World
Championship.
McLaren on the other hand had consistency issues throughout the season and that is the only reason that cost them both of the titles this year. McLaren introduced an ingenious device known as the F-duct which enables a driver to
adjust his rear wing in the middle of a race by increasing or decreasing the air pressure being applied to the car. This was a sort of a counter attack to the flexi wings that were banned after the 2009 Formula 1 season.
However, according to the 2011 FIA rules, the F-duct has been banned for the 2011 Formula 1 season but the Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) will be reintroduced next season. Other than that, one of the most major changes in
the 2011 season is going to be the introduction of the lone tyre suppliers Pirelli who will be replacing Bridgestone next year.
Many drivers have been complaining against Bridgestone as they believe that the compound Bridgestone introduced for the 2010 season did not suite their driving styles. These drivers included Felipe Massa and Michael Schumacher
who blamed Bridgestone almost throughout the season.
Since Bridgestone will be replaced by Pirelli next season and the lone tyre suppliers vow to create the most unique and suitable compound for all the drivers, Formula 1 fans are now expecting a championship challenging result from
Michael and Felipe and as a result, the 2011 Formula 1 season is expected to be even more unpredictable and dramatic than the 2010 Formula 1 season.
Michael Schumacher was able to give us a preview of his performance in 2011 as he scored the second best time at the official Pirelli test session that took place shortly after the 2011 Formula 1 season came to an end. Fernando
Alonso was able to score the best time on the new tyres.
Team Mercedes was unable to perform at their best in 2010 after winning both titles in 2009 (as Brawn GP) in their debut season. However, the team seems even more determined than they were in 2009 and with Michael Schumacher by
their side, it seems that they will be unstoppable if they come up with a promising package for their car for the 2011 Formula 1 season.
However, as we all know, Formula 1 is one of the most unpredictable and technical sports the world has to offer and therefore, it is never easy to predict what the future holds.
