2011’s most electrifying matches: Part I – Tennis Special
Surprising as it could be, the 2011 tennis season was very much above expectations this time. Watching the top ranking change was certainly a new thing for all of the fans. With the year starting with fans having their favourite
player either Rafael Nadal or Roger Federer, there came a tornado that snatched away half of Nadal fans and a little bit of Swiss Maestro’s.
Novak 'Nole' Djokovic has significantly distorted the top positions this season. With a clean sweep in almost every tournament he entered, the top star did push men’s tennis to a greater extent.
Serbian never lost during the year start until the great tennis Professor, Federer, stopped him for the first time in the French Open semis. Djokovic pushed the winning platform to a greater limit and so it got tougher for the
lower ranked to pull the top guns down.
Brit world No.4, Andy Murray went on against the Serbian world No.1 at Cincinnati final after a slow start to his season. Djokovic suffered and unfortunate shoulder injury after falling behind the Brit, 6-4, 3-0, and retired resulting
in a second season title for Murray.
Another epic match of this season was at Shanghai Masters 1000. Murray went down against the fiery Spaniard, David Ferrer in the final round of the ATP Masters event. Murray not only bagged his third consecutive title, clean sweeping
the Asian tour and jumping from world No.4 to world No.3.
This season Nadal and Djokovic played six times, and all of those were final round matches. However, one of the most jolting matches played between the two was at Rome earlier this year when Serbian stunned the King of Clay at
his strong hold and extended his then win loss record to 37-0.
Most of the stunning watches, however, included the Serbian world no.1. Djokovic also made a marvellous run at Miami Masters as he came forth the top shot, Nadal, for the second time in the season and made his dropped the second
bomb on the Spaniard.
Undoubtedly Djokovic had most of the best match of this season, however, there was another rivalry going on this season. This year, Wimbledon had some of the most amazing matches, however, one of them out lasts all and that is
the semi-final quarter-final match between the Swiss Professor and Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga that resulted as a win for the 26-year-old.
Part 2 of the topic continues with the best seven matches of the season.
