2011’s most electrifying matches: Part II – Tennis Special
Rating the best matches would bring the final of Indian Wells Masters to seventh spot. This was the first time of the year when the two big bunnies, Nadal and Djokovic came face-to-face in the season and the first time Djokovic
pulled the Spanish strings.
Following the seventh best match there comes, the Australian Open title, when Djokovic won against Andy Murray to grab his year start title while dispatching Federer in the semis. The five top matches also include the world No.1,
Djokovic.
Madrid Open ranks the fifth best match of the season when Djokovic won his seventh consecutive title beating Ferrer in the final. Federer flourishes the fourth best match title when he ousted Serbian world No.1 as the first man
to do that this season. Following, the Professor takes the third place as well as his ATP World Tour Final against Tsonga mesmerized the world and proved record breaking.
Top two spots include none other than the world No.1 and the second ranked, Nadal. At no. 2 is the U.S Open final that gave Djokovic a record of ten titles in the season captioning him as the 10 million dollar man. Taking the podium
place for the best match of the season is undoubtedly the final of Wimbledon between Nadal and Djokovic that lead to a win for Djokovic and finally succeeded in capturing the top spot.
Although Djokovic has been the show all year round there have been other matches that are not considered in the best matches list. Consider the semi-final between Tsonga and Djokovic at Wimbledon this year. That match was surely
at high temperatures.
Another match that was as electrifying as any other match was between Ferrer and Andy Roddick at Shanghai masters quarter-final. Roddick who seemingly was in command, lost the third set in a tiebreak. The American got so frustrated
that he broke his racket into pieces.
Nevertheless, the season end, Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, was certainly, if considered, was the best tournament, the top eight had to fight for the biggest title of the season. The tournament not only had spectacular matches,
however, also had drama and surprises.
Predicted to clean sweep the season, the top gun had his worst run in the season finale. Winning just one and losing two knocked out the Serbian after Murray lodged out of the tour losing to Ferrer in their first meeting on tour.
Nonetheless, the season brought a marvellous change to the top positions as now the top 10 players are no less than each other for sure.
