2012 ASP World Junior Champions to be crowned at Oakley ASP World Junior Championships
Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) has confirmed that the upcoming Oakley ASP World Junior Championships, scheduled to go down in Bali, Indonesia, from October 6 - 17, will serve as the stage for the crowning of both the Men’s as well as Women’s
2012 ASP World Junior Champions.
It is the first time in ASP History for the exotic Keramas to provide the backdrop for the crowning of this year’s ASP World Junior Champions.
Oakley Global Surf Sports Marketing Manager Ronny Nelson labelled the high-performance right-hander of Keramas as the perfect location to decide the fate of this year’s ASP World Junior Championship.
“Oakley is proud and excited to crown the 2012 ASP World Junior Champion in the idyllic surf destination that is Bali,” conceded Nelson. “The waves, geography and culture make this place a must-visit destination for all surfers. Since the beginning, Oakley
has made it a priority to run this event only in quality swell and Bali has produced every year. With the pristine shores of Keramas as the main site and Canggu as the back-up location we feel we have a winning combination.”
The upcoming Oakley ASP World Junior Championships will be featuring some of the best surfing talent from around the globe, but one surfer to really look out for at this year’s event is Jack Freestone.
The 20-year-old Australian took out the 2010 Oakley World Pro Junior before going on to eventually walk away with the 2012 ASP World Junior Title.
The waves in Bali are already getting Freestone excited, who will be making his one final appearance in a junior event, since he has moved on to the senior league. Naturally, the Australian powerhouse is determined to make a lasting impression in Keramas
during his final skirmish as a junior.
Commenting on the selection of the Oakley surfing event as the pinnacle of this year’s ASP World Junior Championship, Freestone said that it is indeed a perfect scenario. He acknowledged the significant role of the event in lifting him into the next stage
of his career and admitted that he is looking forward to returning there to meet the challenge the event has in store for him.
