2012 African Men’s Club Volleyball Championship reaches quarterfinal stage – Volleyball news
The thrilling action of African men’s club volleyball championship kicked off last week and a total of 22 teams jumped on board to contest their volleyball skills.
The preliminary round-robin of the tournament completed its run from April 21-25 and the grid of eight teams finalised for the quarter-finals.
Following teams have paved their way to the crucial quarterfinals of the 2012 African men’s club volleyball championship:
Borj Bouaririj - Algeria Ahly Ben Ghazi – Libya Esperance - Tunisia Ahly - Egypt Prisons - Kenya Zamalek - Egypt Bejaia - Algeria Mwangaza - Congo RD
According to the set formula of the competition, only two teams from each of the four pools advanced to the quarterfinals.
In Pool A, Algerian and Libyan squad proved to be better and collected the most number of points. On the last day of the preliminary round, Borj Bouaririj defeated Sun Shine of Nigeria and clinched the quarter-final berth.
Ahly Ben Ghazi of Libya and AS Voara of Maldives also came into competition, in order to reserve a berth in the next round of the tournament. The former team proved to be better and claimed better status in last match of first round, which enabled them advance
to the quarterfinals.
In Pool B, Tunisia team Esperance and Ahly of Egypt left everyone behind and finished as top teams for the group. Esperance clashed with APR of Rwanda on day-5 and bagged straight set win. Overall, the Tunisian team performed well and deserved to play in
the quarter-finals. The Egyptian Ahly also displayed great effort and defeated GSU of Kenya in the last match of opening round. Success enabled the Egyptian team to make its way to the grid of top eight teams of the competition.
Kenyan Prison launched power on F Terrestre from Congo RD and joined the winners’ circle on day-5 of 2012 African Club Volleyball Championship. Zamalek of Egypt also became the second team to qualify for the quarter-finals from Pool C. They defeated Omni
Sport of CIV.
Algerian Bejaia and Mwangaza of Congo RD joined the quarter-finals from Pool D of the tournament.
