2012 All Star MVP Melky Cabrera suspended for positive PED test – MLB News
The San Francisco Giants centre fielder and 2012 All Star Game Most Valuable Player Melky Cabrera has been suspended by the Major League Baseball authorities on using Performance Enhancing Drug (PED).
Renowned sports media group has confirmed this shocking news and explained in detail that Cabrera used testosterone. Using banned drug is a direct violation of MLB’s code of conduct which clearly addresses a complete penalty system.
In Cabrera’s case, he has been banned for 50-games which certainly create a very bad effect on his current and future career.
“My positive test was the result of my use of a substance I should not have used, I accept my suspension under the Joint Drug Program and will try to move on with my life. I am deeply sorry for my mistake and I apologize to my teammates, to the San Francisco
Giants organization and to the fans for letting them down.” said Cabrera.
Later a statement came from Giants’ regarding Cabrera and his suspension, "We were extremely disappointed to learn of the suspension of Melky Cabrera for violating Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention Treatment Program. We fully support Major League
Baseball's policy its efforts to eliminate performance-enhancing drugs from our game.”
Cabrera, who was playing well in this season, now gets 50-game suspension which at the same time also a worrying sign for the Giants’ itself.
His game was improved a lot when he showed his true hidden and extraordinary skills in this year’s All-Star Game in which he won the MVP honours.
Cabrera’s suspension is also a very nerve-racking sign for his future contract with the Giants. His current contract will expire next year and if he did not sign by the Giants again, he will be a free agent.
Before start of the season, the Brewers’ ace Ryan Braun was also suspended due to positive PED test but later after filing an appeal against the decision, his suspension was over and he did not miss even a single game.
On the other hand, the Giants’ outfielder has no plans to appeal instead he has publically admitted that he is much sorry for his irresponsible act.
