2012 Amanora Cup: Abhishek Sadanand overpowers Amey Tilloo in final round
India’s budding male shuttler Abhishek Sadanand Kulkarni registered his class in the Amanora Cup by winning Boys’ Singles title on Sunday, December 30, 2012.
He faced a compatriot player Amey Tilloo in the local badminton arena of Pune and their meeting prolonged to 36 minutes.
Abhishek, who had to face a woeful defeat in Men’s Singles title match, made amends by sealing a straight-set victory with 21-14 and 21-14 margin.
He made his intentions clear immediately in the beginning of first set and kept his rival grounded throughout this battle.
On the other hand, Amey Tilloo could not show good finishing skills and surrendered tamely in both segments.
In the opening game, Abhishek prevailed in couple of uninterrupted rallies and gained a decent advantage.
He capitalised this early lead and transformed it into a mountainous figure way before the interval.
Though, the other Indian youngster put an honest effort but his fluctuated performance put his expedition to halt.
Meanwhile, Abhishek changed his tactics and confounded his competitor with a fine blend of power packed smashes and deceiving drop net shots.
His improvisation yielded good result as he managed to place a respectable total of 11 before the interval.
After the one-minute break, he made best out of his effort and doubled the pressure by ruling the court in few back-to-back rallies.
Amey Tilloo showed some spark in the concluding moments but it was not enough to stop Abhishek from pocketing first match point with 21-14 margin.
The second set was just a replay of previous one as both contenders played in similar fashion and wrapped this showdown in just two games.
Initially, Amey Tilloo looked in sublime touch and it was felt that he will avoid a straight-set defeat.
However, the opposing shuttler showed a transformed character and sent him packing with a staggering knock.
Abhishek reinstated his dominance just before the half time and then dictated his challenger all the way to last shot.
He piled up a mountainous figure of 11 before the break and widened the gap in third quarter of set. This lead proved decisive and he raised hands as champion after putting 21-14 score on the board.
