2012 American League All Star Selection: Detroit Tigers’ Miguel Cabrera
Miguel Cabrera has been named reserve third baseman for the upcoming All Star Game on Tuesday, July 10. According to sources, the hard hitting striker finished first on the players’ voting list with 508 votes and he is honoured by his All Star selection.
Cabrera will be looking to make the most of available opportunities in the Midseason classic.
According to sources, Detroit Tigers’ third baseman was named by virtue of the player balloting. Only Texas Rangers’ Josh Hamilton managed to finish with more votes on any position. Cabrera is one of the few players who have made it to the All Star team
seven times in his career.
To accommodate Prince Fielder at first base, Cabrera had to change his position to third base at the start of 2012 season. Showing great hitting skills and ability to handle pressure, he played a key role in many Tigers’ victories this season. Right now,
he is averaging .314 with 16 home-runs and he is tied for second in American League with 62 RBI’s.
Rangers’ Adrian Beltre, who finished second to Cabrera with 398 player votes, had over 400,000 more fan votes to win the start in the All Star Game in Kansas City.
“It means a lot that they give you that kind of respect,” Cabrera said of the players voting for him. “…I wish I was starting, but I can’t control that and I am happy to be on the team.”
Tigers’ outfielder Austin Jackson was unlucky not to make it to the American League All Star team. Jackson has given impressive result since the start of the season.
“That’s not going to define my year by not making it,” Jackson said. “I can’t control that type of thing. You get the break to let the body (recuperate) and get to the second half.”
His .323 batting average is the third highest in the league and he finished fourth with a .404 on base percentage before the All Star Break. Above all, considering his defensive skills, he deserved an entry into the game.
The fans will be looking for the hard hitting Cabrera during the All-Star Game as many other top players in baseball will come together for an exciting show.
