2012 BWF Superseries Finals: Chen Long unseats Du Pengyu in Men’s Singles title match

China’s ace shuttler Chen Long employed all of his brilliance in the final match of BWF Superseries Finals and claimed Men’s Singles crown on Sunday, December 16, 2012.
He was up against the compatriot player Du Pengyu in local badminton arena of Shenzhen. This short-lived tussle concluded in just two games with decisive figures of 21-12 and 21-13.
Both contenders were in high spirits to reserve top spot on the victory stand but Chen Long locked the honour with a remarkable performance.
World Number two Chinese campaigner established a strong grip immediately in the beginning of first set and maintained that upper hand all the way to final moments.
In the opening game, he was bit sluggish in the establishing rallies but then he injected more intensity in his attack and reached to a commanding position of 7-4.
Du Pengyu was not ready for such invasion as he remained at the lower end in remaining part of the game.
Meanwhile, Chen Long mounted pressure by gathering valuable points at steady pace and finished first half of the set with 11-6 total.
After the mid-game break, he played with great control and doubled his lead in no time. He did not show mercy in third quarter of the set and stamped his supremacy over Du Pengyu with 21-12 margin.
This timely win proved a real boost for him as he started the beating from very first stroke in following game.
This time he did not give his competitor even a single chance to comeback and cast him out with a significant difference in the final score.
Chen Long looked in prime touch in this segment of the showdown as he piled up a mountainous figure of 11-6 with great ease and then served notice of his supremacy with a staggering knock after the interval.
On the other hand, World Number nine Du Pengyu could not come out of his challenger’s influence throughout this set.
He kept on trailing behind on the points table until last shot was played and surrendered after reading 13-21 score on the board.
With this win, Chen Long earned the right to raise trophy in Men’s Singles event of BWF Superseries Finals.
