2012 Bitburger Badminton Open: Misbun Ramdan confounds Kwong Beng Chan in Men’s Singles second round
Malaysia’s spirited shuttler Misbun Ramdan Mohmed Misbun performed exceptionally well in the second round of Bitburger Badminton Open Grand Prix Gold and moved into the pre quarter-finals on October 31, 2012.
He intercepted Kwong Beng Chan by registering an impressive result of 21-15 and 21-10 in a 26-minute tussle which was staged at the local badminton arena of Saarbrucken, Germany.
Misbun, who was an unseeded player in this tournament, played with great precision and wrapped this showdown in just two games.
Meanwhile, the other Malaysian campaigner failed to continue his successful run and crashed out of this Grand Prix Gold event in a disgraceful manner.
Both compatriot shuttlers started first set of the match with couple of gruelling rallies and did not allow each other to gain an early advantage.
They challenged each other in all areas of the game and remained equal on points table until 8-8. At this stage, the young Misbun showed elevated craft and prevailed in three consecutive rallies just before the interval.
After the mid-game break, he did not lose focus and widened the gap by piling up a mountainous figure of 14-8 in no time.
Though, Kwong Beng strived hard to narrow the gap but he had could not hit the mark until the game point situation. He gave up this futile chase after reading 15-21 score on the board.
This timely win boosted Misbun’s confidence and he utilised this psychological edge in the following game.
He started the beating after 3-3 and gathered six valuable points without any interruption. He played with an authoritative approach and kept his challenger at the lower end until the announcement of one-minute break.
Misbun finished the first half of the set 11-5 and strengthened his grip by putting an indomitable figure of 15-6.
This nine-point deficit proved too heavy for Kwong Beng as he could not rise from the dust and knelt down in the pressure situation.
Meanwhile, Misbun kept moving forward at steady pace and cruised to victory with an impressive score of 21-10.
However, a real challenge awaits him in the pre quarter-finals as he is going to meet second seeded Marc Zwiebler of Germany.
