2012 Bitburger Badminton Open: Rajiv Ouseph smacks Fabian Hammes in Men’s Singles event
England’s experienced shuttler Rajiv Ouseph unseated Fabian Hammes and advanced into the second round of Bitburger Badminton Open Grand Prix Gold on Tuesday, October 30, 2012.
He took just 21 minutes to register a convincing margin of 21-13 and 21-8 in this Men’s Singles encounter which was staged at local badminton arena of Saarbrucken, Germany.
World Number 27 Rajiv, who is also third seeded shuttler in this tournament, played with an authoritative approach throughout this tussle and alarmed all the contestants by sealing a straight-set victory.
On the other hand, the German campaigner disappointed his supporters by going down in both segments of the showdown.
First sign of trouble came for Fabian Hammes when he lost the opening game with a notable deficit of eight points. He could not come out of his higher ranked rival in the second set and surrendered in a shameful manner.
The first set started with Rajiv making a swift progress with four uninterrupted points. The British shuttler made some unforced errors in next couple of rallies and allowed his competitor to narrow the gap.
However, Rajiv managed to tip the scale in his favour just before the interval and placed a respectable total of 11-6.
He made best out of this initial advantage in the second half and strengthened his grip with 16-11 margin. He played with similar conviction in the final moments and bagged first match point with 21-13 score on the board.
The second set was completely a one sided affair as the German player hardly put any resistance and knelt down in the pressure situation.
On the other hand, Rajiv Ouseph capitalised his first set win and got into commanding position with 10-1 margin.
He outclassed his challenger in all areas of the game and earned great deal of admiration for putting a commendable show of skills.
The British shuttler looked in prime touch in third quarter of the set as he mounted pressure by registering 16-4 total and then raised hands as victor after putting an overwhelming score of 21-8.
Rajiv is scheduled to meet another native shuttler Dieter Domke in second round of this Grand Prix Gold tournament.
