2012 Bitburger Badminton Open: Vivian Hoo, Khe Wei Woon secure quarter-final berth
Women’s Doubles partners Vivian Kah Mun Hoo and Khe Wei Woon forged a fruitful chemistry and marched into the quarter-final round of Bitburger Badminton Open Grand Prix Gold on November 1, 2012.
They outshined Sarina Kohlfurst-Nathalie Ziesig with an impressive result of 21-4, 16-21 and 21-7 after a gruelling exercise of 33 minutes.
This pre quarter-final match proved a real test of their mental and physical fitness as it prolonged to three exhausting sets.
The Malaysian team prevailed in the opening and ending segments whereas the opposing duo could live its moment of glory only in the middle of the battle.
Vivian Hoo and Khe Wei Woon set the ball rolling straight away in the beginning and maintained this momentum all the way to the final moments.
In first set of the match, they put their challengers under huge pressure by placing a mountainous figure of 7-1 and then doubled the impact with a respectable score position of 11-2 before the interval.
After the mid-game break, they injected more intensity in their attack and cornered the opposing team. They played with an authoritative approach and swept the table with a significant lead in 21-4 margin.
Next game brought life back into the contest as the Austrian campaigners showed strong character and turned their rivals’ plan of a straight-set victory into dust.
The twosome of Sarina and Nathalie were a bit confused in the establishing rallies but a couple of productive strokes boosted their confidence.
They finished first half of the set with 10-11 and made a notable difference by registering 15-12 margin in third quarter of the set.
Both female shuttlers showed great finishing skills and setup a nerve racking decider with 21-16 score on the board.
However, third set turned into a one-sided affair as the Malaysian couple ruled the court throughout this crucial game.
Vivian Hoo and Khe Wei Woon employed interesting tactics and confounded their opponents with an unbeatable strategy.
They proved themselves superior with an overwhelming figure of 21-7 and reserved the right to be in the round of eight.
Now their next challenge is to surpass Patchanut Krajangjit-Peeraya Munkitamorn to surge into semi-finals of this event.
