2012 CEV European Men’s Olympic Qualifiers ready to start – Volleyball news
Following the successful completion of European Women’s Olympic Qualifiers in Turkey, the men’s teams are ready to rumble for the Olympic Tickets in Bulgaria.
The 2012 CEV European Men’s Olympic Qualification Tournament is set to be kicked off on Tuesday, May 8. A total of eight teams will join the playoffs and vie for the Olympic berth. Only one spot will be on stake, which will be secured by the top team of
the qualifiers.
Bulgarian city Sofia will provide the backdrop for men’s qualification tournament, while Arena Armeec will be the home of action.
Host Bulgaria will be joined by Slovenia, Spain, and Serbia in Pool I. Likewise, Pool II will have four teams from Germany, Slovakia, Finland, and Italy. The competition will be opened with Pool-Play matches, which will help two top teams from both groups
to advance to the final round of the qualification tournament. According to the set formula of the competition, semi-finals will be played with teams from different pools.
The Pool-Play round will cover its length over a period of four days and a total of three matches will be played on each day of the first round.
In Pool I, host Bulgaria is the top contender to qualify for the semi-finals. The home team will be equipped with stupendous emotional support of local fans. Furthermore, the hosts will enjoy quite a few more advantages in the competition. However, Bulgaria
will have a tough competition with Spanish team, which is enjoying a top form these days.
In Pool II, Italy and Germany will come into stride for the top slot in pool rankings. Germany will open the Pool-Play by taking on Slovakia, while Italy will clash with team from Finland.
At this time, the air is full of wild guesses and random opinions of volleyball fans. People are talking about their favourite teams and players. Nevertheless, the real action will take place when the teams will hit the centre court.
Quite recently, the qualifiers for women held in Ankara, Turkey. Home ladies took full advantage of the familiar conditions and clawed their way to the Olympic Games for the time in history. The rowdy Turkish fans also played an instrumental role in their
team’s victory. Almost all the matches saw large numbers of volleyball enthusiasts, especially the fixture that featured home squad.
Turkey and Poland crossed ways in the final showdown of the European Women’s Olympic Qualifiers. The visiting team put up a great effort but eventually dropped the decision. Turkey emerged successful in the final match and clinched the Olympic berth.
Now all eyes will be set on Bulgaria in the men’s qualifiers. Let’s wait and see if the hosts once again catch the limelight.
