2012 CLT20: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wasim-Akram-c96292 backs Daredevils to win the trophy – Cricket News Update
After his IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders faced an early exit from the ongoing Champions League T20 tournament, in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, the KKR mentor Wasim Akram has backed Delhi Daredevils – also an IPL side – to lift the coveted trophy.
Besides KKR and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lions-c808 being the other three.
The IPL side will play local outfit, Highveld Lions in the first semi-final of the tournament, at Kingsmead in Durban, on Thursday, October 25, 2012.
While speaking to media reporters ahead of the knockout fixture, former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 skipper Wasim Akram said that the IPL side has a very good chance of claiming their maiden CLT20 title.
“While the South Africans, with plenty of home-bred talents, will fancy their chance to win the tournament this time, Delhi will be a strong contender,” said the veteran Pakistan pacer.
“Delhi have improved with every game ... [they] are blessed with men like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LRPL-Taylor-c1849 ... the fact that their top six batsmen are technically accomplished and truly international class will give them a lot of confidence,” Akram added further.
Akram is also hoping for the out-of-form Indian opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Sehwag-c2739 to redeem himself in the knockout stages of the mega event. Sehwag, who had given away captaincy role to Jayawardene prior to the tournament, to focus on his batting, failed to impress with the bat in the opening fixture against KKR before hitting a match-saving 52 against Perth Scorchers, in Cape Town on Sunday.
Akram believes the match-winning half-century against the Scorchers will give Sehwag the much needed self-confidence going into the crunch games.
“Sehwag looked good against Perth Scorchers. His 44-ball 52 will give him a lot of self-reliance. And, this is time for Sehwag to prove his critics wrong,” the legendary left-arm swinger stated.
With two wins and two no-results, Jayawardene led Delhi contingent finished the group stage at the top of Group A, with 12 points. Titans are the second team to have qualified for the tournament semis from the same group with two wins, one defeat and a no-result. They will play Group B http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Thomas-Donald-Topley-c93395 Sydney Sixers in the second semi-final at Centurion on Friday.
