2012 Camping World Truck Series run of James Buescher: A statistical review - NASCAR Special
For James Buescher, all four career victories in Camping World Truck Series came in the 2012 season. With a total of 808 championship points to his name, the American driver went on to claim the 2012 Camping World Truck Series title.
Start of the Camping series was not that great for the American. In the inaugural race of the event, NextEra Energy Resources 250,  Buescher finished 17th, not a great start at all, keeping in mind the end result of the championship. In Kroger 250, raced
at Martinsville Speedway, Buescher finished 3rd clinching 41 championship points and moving up from 17th to 6th position in drivers’ standings with only 5 points behind Jason White.
After the race at Rockingham Speedway, Buescher moved up to 4th on drivers’ standings finishing the race with a silver medal with only 3 points behind the rookie Ty Dillon. At Kansas Speedway, Buescher clinched his first victory of the series. Continuing
his move up, Buescher stood 2nd on drivers’ standings with a total of 159 points after SFP 250.
In the 5th race of the 2012 Camping series, the N. C. Education Lottery 200, Buescher finished 22nd, which made him drop down 2 places on drivers’ standings. Between Charlotte, the 5th race of the series and Chicagoland, the 10th race of the series, Buescher
maintained 4th place on drivers’ standings, clinching 2 victories at UNOH 225 and American Ethanol 225. In Pocono Mountains 125, Buescher finished 2nd again moving up to 3rd position on drivers’ standings with a total of 403 championship points. First half
of the 2012 Camping World Truck Series was over.
In VFW 200, the 12th race of the series, Buescher clinched a 5th position. Finishing 7th in UNOH 200 at Bristol Motor Speedway, Buescher moved to 2nd standing in drivers’ standings for the first time in the series. After UNOH 200, Buescher was 17 championship
points behind Timothy Peters who was leading the series with 497 points to his name. Finishing 3rd at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Buescher narrowed the point difference to 6 championship points. Following a 17th place finish at Iowa Speedway, Buescher dropped
from 2nd to 3rd place on drivers’ standings.
With only 7 races to go in the series, Buescher had 550 championship points to his name, only 11 points behind the leader Ty Dillon who had a 561 championship points. Clinching the 4th career and series victory in Kentucky 201, Buescher regained 2nd place
on drivers’ standings also narrowing the point difference between himself and Ty Dillon to only 4 points.
With Buescher finishing 6th and Dillon finishing 10th in the next race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the point difference narrowed to only 1 point, Dillon being the dominant of the two. After Coca-Cola 250, both drivers’ standings and point difference remained
the same as far as Buescher and Dillon were concerned.
With 4 more races to go in the series, odds went against Dillon and in favour of Buescher. At Martinsville, Buescher took a lead of 21 championship points over Dillon, which Dillon could never recover later on even though Dillon did fight back in WinStar
World Casino 350, narrowing Buescher’s lead to 15 points.
In Lucas Oil 150, Buescher finished 17th still maintaining his leading position on drivers’ standings. In the final race of the series, at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Buescher finished 13th ending the season with 2012 Camping World Truck Series Champion title
to his name.
