Men’s Doubles team Matthew Downton-Samuel Dunner played flawless badminton against Samuel Wadsworth-Bryan Yee in opening round of Yonex Canada Open and powered their way to pre quarter-finals on July 11, 2012.
This first round match, staged in Richmond Oval badminton arena, remained in full swing for 23 minutes and both compatriot pairs played their heart out before reading final result of 21-18 and 21-17.
The victorious duo Matthew-Samuel locked a splendid straight-set win and this timely success has boosted their confidence to face the top seeded pair Juergen Koch-Peter Zauner of Austria in next round.
Meanwhile, the losing Canadian team could not find the required chemistry which ultimately resulted in their early exit.
In first set of the match, both contenders remained close until one-minute break but then Samuel-Bryan failed to match their rivals’ speed in second half of the set.

The twosome of Samuel-Bryan was harmless and armless in the final stage of the game and surrendered after reading a decisive score of 21-18.
Their bad patch continued in second set also as they failed to forge a fruitful partnership and knelt down tamely.
On the other hand, the triumphant team of previous game showed consistency in their performance and secured a second round seat.
