2012 China Masters: Rasmus Bonde, Mads Conrad Petersen earn spot in Men’s Doubles quarter-finals
Denmark’s Rasmus Bonde-Mads Conrad Petersen remained invincible in the second round of Li Ning China Masters and marched into the Men’s Doubles quarter-finals on Thursday, September 13, 2012.
They outshined Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif-Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari in local badminton arena of Changzhou, China.
This pre quarter-final tussle remained in full swing for 61 minutes as both contenders put laudable efforts while piling up final figures of 16-21, 21-13 and 21-13.
The Danish shuttlers came back from behind and locked the honour despite going down in the opening game.
Meanwhile, the seventh seeded Malaysian couple failed to forge a fruitful chemistry and knelt down in crucial moments.
Though, Zakry and Fairuzizuan elevated their chances by prevailing in the first set but they frittered away this opportunity in ending two games.
They were bit sluggish in the beginning of the first set but a couple of uninterrupted points provided them the required momentum.
In first half of the set, they were just three steps ahead of their rivals at mid-game break but then a flurry of power packed strokes helped them to add six points in a row.
They got into a commanding position with 17-9 and blew away their challengers with a striking knock of 21-16.
However, things were not that easy in the following game as their Danish competitors showed elevated craft and managed to keep the contest alive.
This time Rasmus Bonde and Mads Conrad showed superb coordination and sealed this segment of the showdown with a significant lead of eight points.
They played cautiously in the beginning and remained equal until 7-7 but then bagged few valuable points to place a respectable margin of 11-8.
After the one-minute interval, both Men’s Doubles experts made the crowd gasp with a splendid show of badminton skills.
They claimed second set with an overwhelming figure of 21-13 and setup a nerve-racking decider.
The third set was just a replay of previous game as Zakry-Fairuzizuan failed to rise from the dust and surrendered after reading 13-21 score on the board.
Now Rasmus Bonde and Mads Conrad will lock horns with Bodin Issara-Maneepong Jongjit in round of eight of this Super Series.
