2012 China Masters: Wang Yihan casts out Mingtian Fu in Women’s Singles pre quarter-final round
World Number one Wang Yihan proved her class in the pre quarter-finals of Li Ning China Masters as she easily surpassed Mingtian Fu on Thursday, September 13, 2012.
Though, this Women’s Singles encounter ended in just two games but still the losing contender stood tall for 37 minutes before bowing out with 12-21 and 20-22 score.
Wang Yihan, who is also the top seeded player in this Super Series, played impeccable badminton and sealed a splendid straight-set victory.
She has elevated her chance to excel in the home event as her next challenger will be a lower ranked Thai campaigner Intanon Ratchanok in the quarter-finals.
The Chinese shuttler will go on with full force as she did in the preliminary rounds of the tournament.
In the second round match, she laid the foundation of her success by claiming the first set with distinction.
Wang Yihan looked in prime touch as she cornered her rival with a flurry of masterly crafted strokes which fetched valuable points for her.
She established an unassailable lead with 11-5 total before the interval and started the second half of the set with a psychological edge.
The Singaporean player made every effort to come out of this deficit but she could only hit the mark in the second half of the set.
On the other hand, Wang Yihan showed brilliant control over her shots and finished the opening game with score-board flashing 21-12 margin in her favour.
However, next game was not a dead contest as the suppressed shuttler of the previous set showed a transformed character and challenged her opponent’s supremacy all the way to game point situation.
Initially, the Chinese campaigner ruled the court and piled up a mountainous total of 11-4 before the announcement of break.
Wang Yihan was enjoying the upper hand in the third quarter of the set when a couple of unforced errors brought her down.
Mingtian Fu made swift progress and narrowed the gap to 15-16 but she lacked good finishing skills which ultimately cost her vital match point.
Wang Yihan struck hard when it mattered and sent the Singaporean shuttler packing with a decisive figure of 22-20.
