2012 China Open: Chan Peng Soon, Goh Liu Ying lead Malaysia to quarter-final round
Malaysia’s prime Mixed Doubles team Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying continued their unbeatable run in Li Ning China Open and ensured their presence in the quarter-finals on November 15, 2012.
They cast out the twosome of Kim Sa Rang and Choi Hye In by registering a favourable result of 19-21, 21-15 and 21-14.
This 65-minute battle took place in Shanghai as both contenders challenged each other in all areas of the game.
The victorious duo displayed commendable fighting spirit and locked the honour despite slipping down in the opening game.
On the other hand, the Korean pair could not make best out of their first set win and knelt down tamely in the ending two games.
Kim Sa Rang and Choi Hye In played with great precision in the beginning of the first set and established an unassailable lead with few uninterrupted points.
They did not lose focus and ruled the court in next couple of rallies to pile up a respectable total of 11 before the one-minute break.
Later part of the game saw them making swift progress to 19-13 score. Though, few back-to-back mistakes weakened their grip but they served notice of their dominance with 21-19 margin.
At this stage, World Number four pair Peng Soon-Liu Ying switched on their best and counter-balanced the situation by claiming very next match point.
In this crucial segment of the showdown, they played with right attitude and did not allow the opposing team to gain an early advantage.
The Malaysian couple made their intentions clear by putting 4-0 margin and then made best out of this initial lead to finish first half of the set with 11-6 score.
After the mid-game break, Peng Soon and Liu Ying gathered some pace and left their challengers far behind with 21-15 margin.
With such an emphatic end, they started the third set in high spirits and enjoyed the upper hand all the way to game point situation.
They sealed their splendid win with a staggering knock of 21-14 and qualified for the quarter-finals of this Super Series. Now Peng Soon-Liu Ying will lock horns with Riky Widianto-Puspita Richi Dili of Indonesia.
