Juliane Schenk, who holds fourth spot in the World ranking, did not show any sign of confusion in front of the local crowd which gathered to support the native shuttler. She played with great conviction and silenced the spectators with a mesmerising performance.
However, she put a fluctuated performance in the opening game which ultimately cost her a vital match point.
On the other hand, Wang Yihan unleashed a series of well placed strokes and tipped the scale in her favour.
The Chinese badminton queen gathered valuable points at a steady pace and placed a winning margin of 21-19.
Next game completely changed the scenario as the German campaigner showed elevated craft and counter-balanced the situation.
This time Juliane Schenk did not repeat previous mistakes and maintained the upper hand all the way to the final moments.
She started the beating after 4-6 and bagged six points in a row. She did not lose focus and doubled her lead with 15-9 total.
Though, Wang Yihan made swift progress to narrow the gap but this short campaign was not enough to transform the 1-0 lead into a straight-set win.
Juliane Schenk struck hard when it mattered and wrapped this segment of the showdown with a favourable result of 21-16.
Third set kept swinging between both contenders as neither of them could establish a permanent lead until last shot was played.
