2012 China Open: Poodchalat Pisit confounds Shu Wada in Men’s Singles qualifying round
Thailand’s talented shuttler Poodchalat Pisit registered his presence in the Li Ning China Open as he cleared first hurdle in the qualifying round on Tuesday, November 13, 2012.
He unseated Shu Wada of Japan by putting final figures of 21-12 and 21-17 in a 34-minute tussle.
This Men’s Singles encounter took place in local badminton arena of Shanghai and a decent crowd assembled to encourage both contenders.
The Thai campaigner displayed superior skills and wrapped this showdown in a favourable manner.
On the other hand, Shu Wada failed to employ all of his brilliance in the game and crashed out of this prestigious event.
The Japanese shuttler lost control straight away in the beginning of the first set and he could not end this bad patch until last shot was played.
First sign of trouble of came when Poodchalat unleashed a flurry of masterly crafted strokes and bagged many valuable points.
Though, Shu Wada made every effort to narrow the gap but he could not hit the mark all the way to mid-game break.
He kept trailing behind his rival on the points table and allowed Poodchalat to finish first half of the set with a mountainous total of 11.
The Thai player capitalised this initial advantage and strengthened his grip in third quarter of the set.
He mounted pressure with 17-10 margin and then swept the table with a notable difference in 21-12 score.
However, next game was not a dead contest as the opposing shuttler showed some spark and managed to gain an early advantage.
This time Shu Wada matched his competitor’s skills and finished first half of the set with a respectable figure of 11 but then his fluctuated performance triggered the collapse.
Meanwhile, Poodchalat made best out of this situation and sealed a splendid straight-set victory. He levelled the score at 13-13 and then pocketed five consecutive points to establish an unassailable lead.
At the final stage, Poodchalat did not show any sign of confusion and locked the honour with a staggering knock of 21-17.
Now his next challenge will be to surpass Kento Momota to gain access to main round of 2012 China Open.
