2012 China Open: Sun Yu topples Michelle Chan in Women’s Singles qualifying round

Women’s Singles expert Sun Yu played with great conviction and confounded Michelle Chan Ky to step forward to the second stage of qualifying round in Li Ning China Open on November 13, 2012.
She took just two games to wrap this showdown in a favourable manner with 21-7 and 21-11 margin.
This 27-minute encounter was staged at the local badminton arena of Shanghai and a huge crowd gathered to support the young player Sun Yu.
The Chinese campaigner did not disappoint them and displayed commendable craft on the court. She started the beating immediately in the beginning of first game and established an unassailable lead.
Sun Yu bagged three uninterrupted points after 1-1 and then widened the gap by prevailing in couple of consecutive rallies.
Though, Michelle Chan made swift progress and levelled the score at 5-5 but this short campaign was not enough to counter-balance the situation.
Sun Yu injected more intensity in her attack and pushed her rival on the back-foot with six successive points.
She finished first half of the set with an indomitable score position of 11-5 and capitalised this lead even after the mid-game break.
The Chinese shuttler showed consistency in her performance and did not give Michelle Chan even a single counter-attack opportunity.
She proved herself superior in all areas of the game and finished this crucial game with a notable difference in the 21-7 total.
The following game remained interesting just until the announcement of one-minute break as it was a dead contest after the interval.
Initially, both contenders did not allow each other to establish a permanent lead and stayed equal until 6-6.
At this stage, Sun Yu showed elevated craft and tipped the scale in her favour. She maintained an upper hand all the way to the half time and placed a respectable figure of 11.
After the one-minute break, she played fearlessly and outclassed the opposing shuttler with an unbeatable series of power packed strokes.
Sun Yu added six consecutive points in her total and sealed her straight-set victory with 21-11 margin.
However, she will have to stretch her winning streak to ensure her presence in the main round of China Open.
