2012 Chinese Taipei Open: Pia Zebadiah, Rizki Amelia lift Women’s Doubles trophy
It was all-Indonesia final in Women’s Doubles event of Yonex Chinese Taipei Open and the twosome of Pia Zebadiah Bernadeth-Rizki Amelia Pradipta claimed the crown after beating Suci Rizky Andini-Della Destiara Haris on October 7, 2012.
This grand finale was expected to be a nerve-racking contest but it lasted for 32 minutes as the unseeded pair Pia Zebadiah-Rizki Amelia stunned the higher ranked opponents by registering final figures of 21-15 and 21-12.
Both compatriot pairs played fast badminton in the beginning but later part of the match saw them playing with a cautious approach.
The fourth seeded partnership of Suci and Della took a great start in both sets but they lacked good finishing skills which ultimately cost them Women’s Doubles title.
On the other hand, the scratch pair Pia and Rizki showed maturity in the game and locked the honour in a splendid manner.
They set the foundation of their dominance straight away in the opening game and maintained an upper hand until last shot was played.
In the beginning of first set, they bagged four consecutive points and gained an early advantage but next couple of rallies changed the scenario.
The opposing team geared up itself and tipped the scale in its favour by prevailing in six uninterrupted rallies. Suci and Della did not drop this pace and managed to place a respectable total of 11 before the announcement of break.
However, there was not much to do for them after the mid-game break as Pia-Rizki did not give them even a single counter-attack opportunity and claimed first match point with an impressive knock of 21-15.
Next game was also played in similar fashion as both teams were standing toe-to-toe in the beginning but then Pia and Rizki switched on the best and made a significant difference on points table.
In the first half, Suci and Della matched their rivals’ skills in all areas of the game but couple of unforced errors brought them down in crucial moments.
Both pairs were locked in a tough situation when Pia-Rizki showed elevated craft and established a five-point lead. They made best out of this advantage and sealed a splendid win with a favourable score position of 21-12.
