2012 Copenhagen Masters: Zakry Latif, Fairuzizuan Tazari concede walk over due to injury
Men’s Doubles partners Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif and Mohd Fairuzizuan Moh Tazari fell prey to bad luck in Yonex Copenhagen Masters and bid adieu to this international tournament on December 28, 2012.
They were up against the local duo Rasmus Bonde-Mads Conrad Petersen when a sudden injury forced both players to hang up racket in second set.
Earlier, the Malaysian campaigners lost the opening game with a tight margin of 20-22 and they were in high spirit to counterbalance the situation but their ill fortune proved last nail in the coffin.
In the opening game, Zakry Latif and Fairuzizuan Tazari took some time to read their rivals’ game and this sluggishness provided the Danish shuttlers a fair chance to proceed on points table.
Rasmus Bonde and Conrad Petersen did not squander this opportunity and prevailed in the establishing rallies.
They pushed the opposing team in all areas of the court and bagged many valuable points with a fine blend of power packed smashes and deceiving drop net shots.
The native shuttlers relished full benefits of huge support of the local badminton lovers and transformed their initial lead into a mountainous figure.
Though, Zakry Latif and Fairuzizuan Tazari made every effort to stop their competitors but they could not match their speed.
Meanwhile, the Danish campaigners gathered some pace and left their opponents far behind with a significant margin at half time.
After the mid-game break, the Malaysian duo displayed great fighting spirit and came back from a horrendous start.
At first, they unleashed a series of power packed strokes and confined Rasmus Bonde-Conrad Petersen in the rear court.
They caught their challengers in third quarter of the set and brought life back into the contest with an electrifying performance.
Both contenders stood toe-to-toe until game point situation and finally this cliff-hanging set ended when Rasmus Bonde-Conrad Petersen registered a winning figure of 22-20.
This first set loss was just an initial blow for Zakry Latif and Fairuzizuan Tazari as they had to bid farewell due to distressing incident. They decided to quit after a dejected score position of 9-15 and booked tickets to home.
