2012 Denmark Open: Kasper Antonsen, Nikolaj Overgaard make it to second stage of qualifying round
Men’s Doubles experts Kasper Antonsen and Nikolaj Overgaard showed superb coordination and ensured their presence in second stage of the qualifying round in Yonex Denmark Open on October 16, 2012.
They overwhelmed Robert Blair-Koen Ridder by registering final figures of 17-21, 21-14 and 21-13 after a grueling effort of 43 minutes.
The Dutch campaigners gave their supporters a solid reason to celebrate after prevailing in the last two games.
On the other hand, the opposing team raised their chances after claiming the opening match point but they frittered away their efforts in crucial segments of the game.
Robert Blair and Koen Ridder, who belong to Scotland and Netherlands respectively, looked in prime touch throughout the first set as they maintained the upper hand from very first stroke to the last one.
They gained an early advantage with 6-3 total and then strengthened their grip by putting a notable margin of 10-5 just before the interval.
Later part of the game also belonged to them as they manipulated every loop-hole and bagged a vital match point with 21-17 score on the board.
However, the story was entirely different in the following game as the Dutch shuttlers switched on the best after going one down and managed to avoid a straight-set defeat.
The twosome of Kasper and Nikolaj played with great precision and wrapped this crucial set with a significant difference in the final margin.
They kick-started their campaign with an unbeatable series of well placed strokes and put their challengers under huge pressure.
At one-minute break, they were enjoying a distinctive lead in 11-6 total and this advantage boosted their confidence to excel in the second half as well.
The native shuttlers pocketed full benefits of a supportive home crowd and survived this tough competition with a convincing figure of 21-14.
Kasper and Nikolaj played the third set with even more authoritative approach. This time they did not give the opposing team enough space to get settled and unseated with 21-13 score.
Now the Dutch pair is subjected to another tough trial as they are going to meet an experienced team of Alvent Yulianto Chandra-Markis Kido from Indonesia.
