2012 Denmark Open: Lok Yan Poon thrashes Karina Jorgensen in Women’s Singles qualifying round
Hong Kong’s spirited shuttler Lok Yan Poon alarmed all the contestants in the qualifying round of Yonex Denmark Open as she stamped Karina Jorgensen in the opening match on October 16, 2012.
This 42-minute encounter was staged at local badminton arena of Odense, Denmark and both contenders entertained the crowd with a splendid show of skills while piling up final figures of 19-21, 21-17 and 21-19.
Though, Lok Yan wrapped this showdown with a straight-set victory but still it was not an easy win for her as she had to sweat hard to come back after a first set loss.
Meanwhile, the Danish campaigner also put an honest effort and walked tall despite of crashing out of this Super Series.
The opening game set overall pace of the match as both shuttlers played their heart out to gain an early advantage.
They pushed each other in all areas of the court and kept the audience intact all the way to the final moments.
In first half of the set, Karina established a decent lead with couple of productive rallies in a row but she could not go with the same flow and stayed down until half time.
After the mid-game break, the native shuttler put an extra effort and bagged first match point with 21-19 margin.
However, it proved her last success in the home event as Lok Yan bounced back with a strong reply and brought the contest to the right balance.
The Hong Kong player did not show any sign of bewilderment in front of huge crowd and came out of her challenger’s influence by prevailing in eight consecutive rallies.
She did not lose this rhythm and finished first half of the set with a notable figure of 11. This initial advantage helped her in later part of the game and she levelled match score with a staggering knock of 21-17.
There were a lot of fireworks in the decider as both female shuttlers made every effort to avoid a woeful exit from the tournament.
They chased each other all the way to game point situation and this neck-and-neck competition ended when Lok Yan registered 21-19 total on the board.
Now she will be up against Laura Vana in second stage of the qualifying round.
