2012 Denmark Open: Shin Baek Choel, Yoo Yeon Seong power their way to Men’s Doubles title match
Korea’s spirited shuttlers Shin Baek Choel and Yoo Yeon Seong showed superb coordination and claimed a spot in the grand finale of Yonex Denmark Open on Saturday, October 20, 2012.
Men’s Doubles experts performed beyond expectations against Mohammad Ahsan-Hendra Setiawan and sealed a splendid win with 21-17 and 21-15 margin.
This semi-final battle held at local badminton arena of Odense, Denmark and both teams remained head-to-head for 35 minutes.
Though, the Indonesian shuttlers put a decent effort but luck was not on their side and they had to bid farewell to this Premier Super Series.
Baek Choel and Yeon Seong, who were underrated earlier in this tournament, registered their class by ruling the court in both games.
They laid the foundation of their supremacy straight away in the beginning of the first set and maintained the upper hand until the final moments.
In the opening game, the Korean campaigners established an unassailable lead with 7-1 total and relished full benefits of this early advantage.
They kept their challengers at lower end until the announcement of break and started second half of the set with a significant edge in 13-6 margin.
However, it was not an easy ride to the victory as the opposing team showed some spark and put them under huge pressure.
Both contenders remained close on points table in third quarter of the set but then Baek Choel and Yeon Seong smacked their opponents with a staggering knock of 21-17.
The second set was filled with a lot of sensation as both teams challenged each other in all areas of the game and made this tie a memorable contest.
Initially, the Korean players were in strong position with a notable lead and it was felt that they will easily pocket this crucial match point but Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan forced them to put an extra effort.
Baek Choel and Yeon Seong were enjoying an authoritative position with 15-12 total when the Indonesian shuttlers made a swift progress and levelled the score at 15-15.
However, they did not lose their nerve and prevailed in six consecutive rallies to place an overwhelming figure of 21-15.
