2012 Dutch Open: Eric Pang ousts Maxime Moreels in first round of Men’s Singles event
Men’s Singles expert Eric Pang relished full benefits of home ground to cast out Maxime Moreels in Yonex Dutch Open at Almere on October 10, 2012.
This opening round match remained in full swing for 27 minutes before ending with final figures of 21-12 and 21-14.
The Dutch campaigner, who was seventh seeded player of this tournament, proved his worth by showing commendable badminton skills.
On the other hand, Maxime Moreels failed to rise on his toes and remained at lower end in both sets of the match.
Now the victorious player will lock horns Kestutis Navickas of Lithuania and win will take him into pre quarter-finals.
Earlier in the first round match, Eric Pang established his grip without wasting any time and enjoyed the upper hand until last shot was played.
He unleashed a flurry of power packed strokes and got into commanding position with 5-0 total. He did not lose focus at any stage and magnified the impact by ruling the court in next couple of rallies.
At mid-game break, Eric strengthened his grip by placing an indomitable margin of 11-4. He played positive badminton in third quarter of the set and cornered his challenger in all areas of the game.
Though, Maxime made swift progress by gathering few consecutive points but Eric put his expedition to halt by prevailing in the last eight rallies.
The Dutch shuttler wrapped first segment of the showdown with a favourable score position of 21-12.
This win provided him the required momentum and Eric cruised to victory by claiming the second match point on merit.
He employed interesting tactics by keeping low profile in the beginning and then by confounding his competitor with an abrupt attack.
Eric played with cautious approach which resulted in 4-4 margin but then he geared up himself and left the opposing shuttler far behind with 11-7 total.
After one-minute break, the Belgian player showed some spark but his supremacy was short lived as Eric Pang stormed back when it mattered.
Maxime Moreels kept trailing behind but he had to give up this futile chase after reading 14-21 score on the board.
