2012 Dutch Open: Jie Yao fails to proceed in Women’s Singles event – Badminton News
Netherland’s prime female shuttler Jie Yao disappointed her spectators as she lost to Patty Stolzenbach in the pre quarter-finals of Yonex Dutch Open on October 11, 2012.
The top seeded player of the tournament could not perform up to expectations and surrendered after spending just 31 minutes on the court.
Patty, who was underrated earlier in this event, registered her presence by sealing a straight-set victory with an impressive result of 21-15 and 21-18.
First sign of trouble came for Jie Yao when she struggled to revive her lost form in the beginning of the first set.
Though, she took off in perfect manner but couple of fatal mistakes brought her down. She was enjoying the upper hand with 3-1 margin when her compatriot player gathered four consecutive points and established a decent lead.
Patty did not lose this touch in next couple of rallies and strengthened her grip with few successive points.
After 7-4 total, she lost focus for a short span of time and allowed her opponent to bounce back but she reinstated her supremacy just before the interval and finished first half of the set with a respectable score position of 11-8.
Later part of the game proved a one-sided affair as Jie Yao hardly put any effort to stop her challenger from bagging a vital match point.
On the other hand, Patty showed consistency in her game plan and survived first segment of the showdown with a favourable figure of 21-15.
Next game was full of drama as both shuttlers snapped at each other’s heels and made this tie a memorable contest.
They put all they had to achieve their respective goals and their honest effort was applauded by the local crowd.
Initially, Jie Yao got into commanding position by prevailing in few uninterrupted rallies but then the lower ranked Patty showed elevated craft and tipped the scale in her favour.
However, both contenders were locked again in a tough competition before the interval as they were equal with 11-11.
They kept on chasing each other until game point situation and this cliff hanging tussle ended when Jie Yao registered a winning margin of 21-18.
