2012 Ede Clendinnen Shield: Jacinta Joe thrashes Leesa Grundy in Women’s Singles showdown
The spirited shuttler Jacinta Joe of The Territories displayed unbeatable craft on the court and overpowered Leesa Grundy in Ede Clendinnen Shield Sydney on Tuesday, August 28, 2012.
Though, this Women’s Singles tie ended in just two games but still the victorious shuttler had to sweat hard for 23 minutes to read favourable result of 21-10 and 21-16.
Jacinta played flawless badminton and sealed a splendid straight-set victory to strengthen her team’s grip over their battle against Tasmania.
On the other hand, the opposing shuttler also earned great respect for her laudable effort which she put on throughout this two-set match.
The opening game set the overall tempo of the tussle as it was filled with a lot of sensation. Both players displayed a fluctuated performance before wrapping this segment of the showdown.
In first half of the set, Leesa made swift progress by proving her authority in a couple of uninterrupted rallies. She cornered her rival with a series of well placed strokes and added vital points in her total.
However, things dramatically changed just before the interval as Jacinta showed elevated craft and counter-balanced the situation in a splendid manner.
She grabbed a few consecutive points and cruised to a respectable score position of 11 before the announcement of the break.
The Territories’ campaigner continued with same momentum and strengthened her grip immediately in the second half.
She employed interesting tactics and enthralled the opposing shuttler with some hard to learn badminton skills. She maintained a notable lead until game point situation and finished this set with an overwhelming figure of 21-10.
Next game was also played in same manner as the Tasmanian shuttler established an initial advantage but then frittered away her effort in crucial moments.
This time Leesa looked more confident while starting her campaign as she did not waste time and snatched some valuable points.
Though, she remained in a strong position in most part of the game but luck was not on her side as she committed some unforced errors which triggered the collapse.
Meanwhile, Jacinta manipulated every loop-hole masterly and smacked her competitor down with a staggering knock. She raised her hands as victor after putting a decisive margin of 21-16.
