2012 Evian Masters - Michelle Wie finishes 6-over par
The 2012 Evian Masters proved to a serious disappointment for Michelle Wie. She finished the tournament in the 64th position with a score of 294.
From the first round, it was clear that Wie had no chance of achieving a decent ranking on the final points table. Many observers said at the start of the event that given Michelle Wie’s recent record, her chances at the Evian Masters appear slim.
This was no idle analysis. In the previous four events, Wie played her worst and barely managed to appear in the final rankings.
Wegmans LPGA Championship in June was where Wie barely managed to make the cut. She played a lacklustre game and registered a final score of 12-over par-156.
The next event was Manulife Financial LPGA Classic, where played slightly better and scored 287 points. She was placed in the 68th position.
The next tournament was the famous Walmart NW Arkansas Championship Presented by P&G. Again, Wie just managed to make the cut by scoring a dismal 4-over par 146. In the 2012 U.S.
Women’s Open, Wie performed comparatively great and managed to finish in the 35th position. She scored 298 points. With this record, Michelle Wie was not expected to finish in the top-10.
She started the first round with a birdie on the 4th hole. She again shot a birdie on the final round. This round also saw her shooting three bogeys on holes 11, 12 and 15. The final score for this round was 73.
The second round was marginally better with a score of 72. Wie shot four birdies at holes 7, 10, 17 and 18. This great comeback was clouded by four bogeys, the first coming on the first hole.
The third round was her worst with a score of 76. This included five bogeys at holes 4, 6, 8, 9 and 15. Wie also managed a birdie on hole 17 but it did not have any effect on her score.
The final round saw Wie scoring 73 points. She shot 4 birdies in this round at holes 3, 7, 8 and 14. However, this great play was overshadowed by five bogeys at holes 1, 2, 4, 10 and 16.
